Ministry of Economy and Planning Launches the Sustainability Champions program at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh

​​​​In a significant move designed to enhance corporate sustainability, Ministry of Economy and Planning launched today the Sustainability Champions program on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development in Riyadh.

This groundbreaking initiative will revolutionize the sustainability landscape across the Kingdom by fostering unique collaborations among leading companies across crucial sectors. It is part of the country's ongoing efforts to develop inclusive and sustainable economic growth pathways.

The Sustainability Champions program is integral to Saudi Arabia's comprehensive approach to addressing environmental challenges and accelerating its transition towards a greener economy in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

Under the Sustainability Champions program, distinguished companies, known as 'Champions,' will support other entities to enhance their sustainability practices. These mentors are not only leaders in their respective industries but are already at the forefront of integrating sustainable practices into their operations.

The program has been officially launched with a ceremonial signing, where senior leaders from the 19 Sustainability Champions committed to boost sustainability within their operations and share their expertise with the wider economy. This will develop a collaborative ecosystem where knowledge and best practices are shared to unlock sustainable growth.

Crucially, it also aims to build local capabilities and equip participating companies with the tools and technologies needed to improve their sustainability reporting and performance.

The Sustainability Champions program underscores the proactive steps taken by Saudi Arabia to enable sustainable development through collaboration. The Kingdom remains steadfast in its commitment to environmental stewardship amid unprecedented opportunities for businesses, investors, and a growing private sector to leverage the country as a platform for growth.

The 19 Sustainability Champions will commit to transforming the sustainability practices of at least three other companies within the Kingdom, aiming to create a ripple effect that will multiply the impact across the economy. 

The Sustainability Champions program is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Saudi Arabia's public and private sectors, making it a pivotal moment in the Kingdom's sustainable development journey. 

As the world converges on Riyadh for this special meeting, the launch of the Sustainability Champions program marks a new chapter in global sustainability efforts. 19 leading companies have signed up to the Sustainability Champions program: Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company, ACWA Power, SABIC, Ma'aden, Alrajhi Bank, Saudi National Bank, Saudi Awwal Bank, Riyadh Bank, stc, Mobiliy, Zain, Red Sea Global, Roshn, National Housing Company, Almarai, Savola, Olayan Financing Company, and Alsulaiman Group.
